Mrs. Lakshmi Pallegama is the new Chairperson of the Civil Security Department Seva Vanitha Unit (CSDSVU) at Civil Defence Force Headquarters. She has also served as the Chairperson of Sri Lanka Prison Department Seva Vanitha Unit.
In her capacity as the Chairperson in the Seva Vanitha Unit, she is totally dedicated towards uplift of the officer’s family, bringing members of the CSD families under one umbrella, together for unified goals and common good. Her motherly care often leads to resolution of issues among officer’s immediate family members and relatives during consultation sessions she organizes for members since she firmly maintains that a housewife’s multiple roles and responsibilities should be well addressed as a binding commitment when her spouse is away on national duty. She used to take exceptional interest in inquiring into the well-being of widows as well as family members of disable officers whose requirements are different from usual stereotypes. This novel approach as the CSD Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson has brought about an amazing team spirit among ladies in all the units in CSD.
The CSD Seva Vanitha Unit has also been at the forefront of providing maximum possible support for construction of new houses, completion of partly-built ones, award of scholarships, provision of financial grants, medical assistance, etc. in the past couple of years. Mrs. Pallegama, an old student of Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo 9, has one son and a daughter. Her son is currently studying abroad while her daughter is still engaging in school activities.
