The Civil Security Department made a significant contributions to provide temporary shelter for the displaced personnel from the debacle at Meethotamulla by undertaking complete overhaul of a paddy storing building by providing a work force that was committed towards the task round the clock.
More than 100 troops of Civil Security Department deployed for cleaning and preparation for human use at the Paddy Store Complex to accommodate the people who lost their houses due to the resent disaster at Meetotamulla garbage dump. The CSD was able to complete the job within a short period of time under the direct guidance of Hon. Minister for Low & Order Mr. Sagala Rathnayake and Chandrarathne Pallegama Director General of CSD.

The 2nd day of April announced as the day for Civil Security Department, at the Thirasara Lanka National Festival held at the BMICH. At this festival the CSD organized Couple of stalls where peoples can purchase toxin free indigenous rice at a cheaper price. The festival was so colorful with the cultural dances and events conducted by the cultural troop of the CSD and display of Angampora fighting event. Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama the Director General of the CSD and Board of Directors were present at the festival.
The fourth day of the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Festival of Gangarama Temple in Hunupitiya was dedicated as the Civil Defence Day.
Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama, Director General, Mrs. Lakshmi Pallegama, President. Seva Vanitha Unit and Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando, Additional Director General participated in the colourful religious procession from the temple to the Seema Malakaya.
On completion of the procession and religious rites the cultural troupe of the Civil Security Department performed whilst large numbers of colourful lanterns made by Civil Defence personnel were also on display in the precincts of the temple.
