Air Vice Marshal Roshan Senaka Biyanwila was born on 14th September 1968. He received his primary and secondary education at St. Peter’s College Colombo. He joined the Sri Lanka Air Force as an Officer Cadet on 17th May 1988 to the Administrative Branch with the 19th Intake of Officer Cadets and successfully completed the Officer Cadets Basic Combat Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Combat Training School Diyatalawa, Basic Administrative Course and Advanced Administrative Course at Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay. He was commissioned on 26th May 1990 in the rank of Pilot Officer and elevated to his present rank on 15th April 2020.
During his service career, he has served in different area of the country and significantly he was a member of the Directing Staff at Junior Command and Staff College Sir Lanka Air Force Academy China Bay in 2003/2005. He was the Staff Officer to the Commander of the Air Force in 2011 and was appointed as the Air Secretary from 28th February 2011 to 27th February 2014. He was the Deputy Director Administration (Personnel) from 2014 to 2018 and Director Administration from 2019 to 2022 before being appointed as the Deputy Chief of Staff.
In the academic background of Air Vice Marshal Biyanwila, he holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Bedfordshire, United Kingdom. He graduated from the Army Command and Staff College Sapugaskanda in 2002/2003 and in 2019 he attended the National Defence College New Delhi, India at which he earned the distinguished title ‘ndc’.
He was a member of the College Cricket Team and Athletic Team, and he represented Sri Lanka Air Force in Cricket. Air Vice Marshal Biyanwila being a Sportsma. Involved in many sports management appointments at National level. He was the Vice President of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka during 2007/2008 and was appointed to the Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket in January 2016. Subsequently, he held the prestigious appointment of Hon. General Secretary Sri Lanka Cricket in 2018. His contribution to the Sri Lanka Air Force in administration and Sports is immense. He held the appointment of Secretary Air Force Sports Council from 2009 to 2014 and was appointed as the Secretary, Defence Services Sports Board in 2009 / 2010.
For his distinguished and exemplary service, he has been awarded with Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal, the Long Service Clasp, “Vishishta Seva Vibhushanaya” and the “Uttama Seva Padakkama”.
Air Vice Marshal Biyanwila is married to Dilini Biyanwila and blessed with a son and a daughter.
